Animal Socializing Volunteer

We receive many more animals at our shelter than our staff members have time to provide with the attention and exercise that they need. Since staff members are unable to provide animals with the needed attention and exercise, volunteers are the only way our animals receive the socialization that that need!

    Animal Socializing Volunteers must:
  • be able to commit to volunteer at least 2 hours per week.
  • make a six month time commitment to continue volunteering.
  • be able to physically handle walking and playing with animals.
  • show compassion for the animals in our care.
  • understand the policies regarding kennel safety and animal care.

Training Process:

All volunteers must undergo the Animal Socializing Volunteer training before anything else! The process takes between 30 minutes to an hour and explains the basics about getting around our shelter, volunteer codes and files, basic Chameleon training, basic kennel safety and animal handling.

Why Animal Socializing?

Because it saves lives! It creates calmer animals, greatly reduces kennel stress, and makes animals more adoptable through their behavior. Plus, it’s fun! Animal Socializing Volunteers can work on basic training skills, bathe and brush animals, make “adopt me” signs for our animals, take dogs to parks and for walks off our property, and even play fetch in our kennel runs!
