Rescue and Foster Specialist Volunteer

Due to the volume of animals our shelter receives, it’s impossible to find adopters for all of them. Many Salt Lake area rescue groups, as well as volunteer foster homes are available to help out with animals we are unable to help.

Rescue and Foster Specialist Volunteers will need to:
  • write brief, friendly bios about animals (chosen by staff members) who are in need of rescue and foster. Good writing skills are essential.
  • possess great people skills.
  • learn about the various rescue groups and special foster care situations that our shelter works with.
  • work directly with the Adoption department, and give regular updates about your progress
  • understand and help with the Rescue Waggin’ transport program

Training Process:

Interested volunteers will need to meet with Adoption staff and Volunteer Coordinator to ensure position is a good fit. Volunteers will then need to go through a 2 hour training process with Adoption staff. Rescue and Foster Specialist Volunteers will need to be able to commit to a specific 2 hour shift per week. Volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age for this position.

Why Rescue and Foster Specialist Volunteering?

Fosters enable us to save animals we otherwise would not be able to work with, such as sick or injured animals, young kittens and puppies, and dogs in need of socialization. Rescues are able to adopt out animals that we are unable to, and save thousands more lives at our shelter each year!
