Foster Program

Temporary Homes for Animals in Need

  • Are you thinking of adopting a new pet, but aren't ready for the long-term commitment?
  • Do you want to help our four-legged friends who aren't ready for adoption?
  • Have you dreamed of being a hero and saving lives?

If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, the foster program may be just right for you! Shelters across the nation suffer from overcrowding and many of the animals put to sleep every day could be adopted with a little work and a lot of love.

Here at Salt Lake County Animal Services, we are striving to become a 'No Kill' shelter by adopting out all animals who are eligible for adoption, and we need your help. We are often overwhelmed with the number of new kittens born each day and need loving homes to care for these animals until they are old enough for adoption. Would you like to take care of these babies without having to worry about their long-term care?

Perhaps you fancy yourself more of a 'dog' person. To save as many animals as possible, we have paired up with Petsmart Charities® Rescue Waggin'® to send some of our animals to areas with a shortage of available animals. They come pick up animals we've registered with them on a regular basis, but we need temporary homes for animals awaiting pickup. You could provide a home to these wonderful animals for a short time and free up kennel space for other animals!
